Nobody likes to get categorized superficially. Yet we often judge strangers based on a short impression. It is not much needed for that – our subconscious mind connects the visual appearance with prior knowledge and wrong assumptions.
Especially humans with migration experience are far too often affected by negative categorization. To break down preformed opinions and clear up with wrong assumptions, it might help to truly listen to the stories of our fellow human beings This is exactly what Viktoria Madlmeir from Südwind Steiermark did. She asked some strangers with migration experience to tell her their stories. These people are often reduced to the special experience of migration, but they have so much more to tell.
Through Portraits from the Border a touching as well as catching collection of stories has been created which are worth to be read!
